Kids Hair Care
Ah, children! Their innocence, their laughter, their antics, their tight little coils that make you want to snatch out your own hair and paste it to their tiny scalps! But before you put your frustration on display, consider this:
Once upon a time, you were a kid. And as you grew, you began to recognize differences, not as better or worse, just different. At least until your friend with the “good hair” or relaxer started poking fun at your “naps” and Mommy added to it by complaining about your hair being much too thick and unruly. That’s when you started to get self conscience and unsure. That’s when you stopped believing you were pretty and started thinking you were “ok”, believing that straight hair would make it all better.
You were a kid and easily influenced by those around you. Now you have a kid who is easily influenced. So don’t get frustrated. Do this instead:
Maintain your child’s hair with natural oils, water and gentle cowashing or shampooing. There is no need for curl enhancers or other styling products because the texture could continue to change until as late as eight years old.
Keep it simple, Sista! You know first hand how rambunctious your kids can be, so choose styles that can be done in a matter of minutes. Save the intricate styles such as cornrows and the like, for times when you know you wont have the time or wont want to be bothered.
Make hair times learning time, by giving your daughter barrettes, combs and other accessories to styles a dolls hair as you style her.
And always, ALWAYS, be positive and encouraging. Your little one is looking to you for reassurance and acceptance. DO NOT let her down!
